Trump makes a great deal
Back when he was an internet troll and reality-show host, Donald Trump was critical of a lot things. One of them was the costs of a new Air Force One 747 from Boeing.
Today we learned that Trump has reached a new deal for $3.9 billion.
Enter the spin zone. The White House now says the estimate for the deal was more than $5 billion and the White House declared that "Thanks to the President's negotiations, the contract will save the taxpayers more than $1.4 billion."
So it started at $4 billion, went up to $5 billion, settled at $3.9 billion and saved $1.4 billion. That's the kind of math that only exists in politics.
Meanwhile, even if Boeing chipped of $100m or $1.4 billion from the costs of the project, it has reaped an incredible windfall from the enormous boost in military spending since the election and shares hare more than doubled.
Boeing, meanwhile, knows that there's one thing the President likes better than a great deal -- flattery.
