The real problem with the US political process

A classic case of what is wrong with Congress was the recent brouhaha of the Sandy “relief bill”.

You’d expect the bill to be limited to the immediate needs os putting New Jersey and New York back on their feet.

But instead you get that and many billions more of unrelated pet projects. Congresspeople shrewdly attach all manner of pork to bills that are sure to pass. Who in their right minds would vote against “Puppy and Kittens Protection Act of 2013″?

If you object to the pork, you are label a nutjob by those (like Chris Christy) who is waiting with his hand out. The whole process is just disgraceful.

The most important reform that can be made in the US Congress would be forcing amendments to bills to be germane to the main piece of legislation. No more solar power subsidies in a hurricane recovery bill please…
