If there is any key takeaway (so far) its this:
Head of Catalan regional government says the referendum opens doors to unilateral declaration of independence by Catalan parliament
Earlier:
- Voting underway in Catalonia amid violent scenes
- Catalonia injury toll now at 844
- Head of Catalan regional government says Catalan citizens have won independence right
A constitutional crisis for Spain ... this is going to get worse before it gets better. You would be hard pressed to find anyone not expecting the results so far, though.
For the euro - it 'gapped' a little lower in early goings on here in Asia (in the barely existing liquidity conditions of Monday dawning) and has since filled it in. So far the euro response is very limited. There are stop losses clustered below the Friday London low (as you'd expect).
