S&P 500 posts small rebound after big dip

The S&P 500 is trading 5 points higher to 1837 after an 18 point fall to start the year on Thursday. Harsh winter weather is likely to put a damper on trading today.

One area of trouble could be autos after Ford reported December light vehicle sales up 1.7% compared to the 4.3% analyst estimate. Last month, the automaker warned about sliding profits so the numbers shouldn’t be a shock. In a few minutes ISM New York data will be released but it’s rarely a market mover.
