Short Australian dollars, long Dollarydoos

Petition to change the name of the Australian dollar to 'Dollarydoo' gains traction

The struggles of the Australian dollar over the past year inspired a campaign to change the name of the currency to the Dollarydoo; a name inspired by a 1995 Simpsons episode.

A petition on change.org is up to 13,700 signatures in a quest to get 15,000.

The authors of the petition say it's a creative way to boost AUD.

"Due to global commodity prices plummeting, the Australian economy is struggling. That's why we need something to stimulate the Australian economy and that something is changing the name of the Australian currency to 'Dollarydoos'. This will make millions of people around the world want to get their hands on some Australian currency due to the real life Simpsons reference, driving up the value of the Australian currency. If the leaders of this great nation have any common sense at all, they will introduce legislation to parliament to change the name of our currency as soon as possible. So please sign this petition to get our nations leaders to finally act on this important issue."

It's late Friday in Melbourne but we reached noted Australian dollar expert Eamonn Sheridan and he had this to say: "Crikey mate! I'm on a Maccas run in my tracky-dacks, then off to pick up some durries from the servo. I'd sign the petition but my internet's cactus"
