Salvini with a subtle hint
So far Italian leaders have held a hard line against the EU in a budget spat on the 2019 budget, saying the deficit target would be 2.4% and there would be no negotiation.
On the weekend, however, deputy PM Matteo Salvini hinted at some scope for compromise.
Asked whether the 2.4% number was set in stone, he told AdnKronos: "Nobody is fixated on this; if there's a budget that makes the country grow, it could be 2.2 percent or 2.6 percent."
That's hardly signaling a compromise but it's a tiny bit of wiggleroom that could pave the way to a deal in a saga that's gotten way too heated.
Italian 10-year yields finished on Friday down 5 bps to 3.41%.
