“People are in homes that are uninhabitable,” New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said alongside Bloomberg at a news conference. “People don’t like to leave their home, but the reality is going to be in the temperature.”-RTRS
- Mayor Bloomberg says about 20,000 of those needing temporary housing are public housing residents.
- Says “We don’t have a lot of empty housing in this city, it’s a problem to find housing.
- Says 143,000 voters will be reassigned to different poll sites for election day.
I understand what the Governor said about people not wanting to leave their homes, it is one of the toughest decisions a homeowner is forced to make. We were lucky this week when the mother of one of our friends did choose to evacuate her home in Breezy Point that ended up being completely destroyed by Sandy. She was able to say later, “no house, no car, no problems”, one of those rare individuals you know will rebuild and come back stronger than ever.
