Republican plan will reduce weekly unemployment benefit to $200 from $600 - report

Washington Post report

Senate Republicans are proposing unemployment benefits of $200 a week -- down from $600 -- until states are able to create a system that would provide 70% of a laid-off worker's previous pay, reports from WaPo and Bloomberg say.

Taking $400/week away from unemployed Americans is undoubtedly going to create strains in consumer spending. The market wouldn't like that if it was the final number but you have to wonder if that's just the opening salvo and they settle on something like $400 in a deal with Democrats.
