Former politician in Argentina caught red handed trying to bury $9 million
A former top official in Argentina's government was found with an assault rifle, severable valuable watches and 160 heat-sealed bundles of dollars, euros, Japanese yen and Qatari riyal.
The lawmaker, José López, had been at a convent but a neighbour called police when he saw him hurling bags of cash over the convent walls.
He tried to flee the retreated to the convent where he told a group of nuns: "They are going to steal from me. Because I stole the money to come and help here."
Sure you were.
The lawmaker José López was in charge of public works and oversaw more than 40,000 public works contracts.
"We never gave any benefits to any businessmen and all the projects were done through public tender and were awarded at the lowest cost," said Mr López.
Sure you did.
Is there anything more satisfying that reading about a politician getting caught with bags of money?
