Rough transcript of call with Ukraine released
- Pres. Trump asked Ukrainian presidents Zelenskiy to examine whether democratic US president candidate Biden stopped investigation of company in which his son was involved
- Trump told Ukraine Pres. "there's a lot of talk about Biden's son"
- if you can look into it.... It sounds horrible to me
- US has been very good to Ukraine but did not directly mention foreign aid
- Justice Department concluded Trump did not violate campaign finance laws
- US Atty. Gen. Barr has not spoken with Trump about having Ukraine investigate anything according to the Justice Department
Lawmakers in Washington of raise concerns about Trump's directive to freeze nearly 400 million in military assistance for Ukraine. That freezing was in the days leading up to the phone call with the Ukrainian Pres. Those funds however have been subsequently released.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi launched a formal impeachment inquiry late yesterday saying:
- The actions of the Trump presidency have revealed the dishonorable fact of the presence betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections"
