US President Obama has been speaking during his UK visit 24 April
- the UK could take up to 10 years to negotiate trade deals with the US if it leaves the EU
- Britain would also have less influence globally if it left
- Britain would go to the "back of the queue" for trade deals with the US if it votes to leave the EU
- Britain was at its best when "helping to lead" a strong EU and membership made it a "bigger player" on the world stage.
- America wants Britain's influence to grow, including within Europe.
"The UK would not be able to negotiate something with the United States faster than the EU.
"We wouldn't abandon our efforts to negotiate a trade deal with our largest trading partner, the European market."
On whether he should be intervening on the UK's referendum, he said:
"Let me be clear: ultimately this is something the British voters have to decide for themselves.
"As part of our special relationship, part of being friends is to be honest and to let you know what I think, and speaking honestly, the outcome of that decision is a matter of deep interest to the US, because it affects our prosperity as well."
No doubt he had a little nudge to speak from PM Cameron but it's the UK voters who ultimately will decide. Whether Obama's opinions are valid or not there is a danger that many will take objection, rightly or wrongly, to all the outside interference in favour of the Remain campaign.
The countdown to 23 June continues.
