The New Zealand finance minister Hon Robertson releases the 2021 budget policy statement

  • government will announce measures to curb housing demand. Can do more to manage demand particularly from those who are speculating. We will also make announcements on the supply side as budget 2021 is finalized
  • in September treasury projected that that falling from a peak of about 56% of GDP in 2024 to 40% of GDP in 2034. Net projections show that that now at 36.5% of GDP in 2034
  • that represents about NZ$60 billion less that at the end of the projection. Then at the pre-election update

The finance minister adds in his budget policy statement:

Budget 2021 will focus on the government's overarching objectives for this parliamentary term which are: continuing to keep New Zealand safe from Covid 19, accelerating the recovery and rebuild and addressing key issues like climate change, housing affordability and child poverty".
The statement adds, "the government will continue the balanced approach to investing strong public services and addressing issues like housing, while keeping a lid on debt.

The NZDUSD is trading at 0.72187 after the pair extended above a swing area between 0.7222 and 0.72252. The high for the day reached 0.72318, but as traded and close below the swing area the last 4 hourly bars.
