Nikkei 225 closes higher by 0.1% as stocks recover some ground
Asian equities were mostly weighed lower earlier on by global growth worries following sentiment from Wall Street overnight but they have recovered a little in the past half-hour of trading with the Nikkei inching up to just about flat levels at the close.
Meanwhile, Chinese stocks also temporarily moved up to positive territory with the Shanghai Composite index seen trading up by 0.1% moments ago before dipping a little now to be down by 0.2%. The Hang Seng index is still lower on the day by 0.3%.
Overall, sentiment is pointing towards a more neutral but cautious tone as we await European traders to join the fray before focusing on earnings to come in US trading. That should keep USD/JPY closer to flat levels that we're seeing now around 109.30-40 as we begin European trading.
