Tokyo's main index closes lower on the day after a holiday yesterday

The losses here has more to do with the fact that the yen has been back on the rise since Friday as a result of higher yields in both the US and Japan. The fact that equities sentiment remains soft only adds to the sentiment here. In other Asian markets, the Hang Seng index is up by 0.1% currently as mainland Chinese equities are also paring earlier gains ahead of the closing hours.
