Tokyo's main index closes near the highs for the day

Exporter and tech stocks did the heavy lifting for the Nikkei today as Japanese stocks in general benefited from the calmer risk tones in the market. The same can't be said for the Hang Seng and mainland Chinese stocks though, reversing early gains to trade in the red currently. And much like its Chinese counterparts, the Hang Seng has entered into a bear market in trading this week:
