Tokyo's main index closes near flat on the day

Japanese stocks surrender gains as the Nikkei closes basically flat on the day with Chinese stocks extending losses after the morning break. The Shanghai Composite is at session lows now down by 0.9% with the Hang Seng also paring earlier gains to be only up 0.1% currently.
