Tokyo's main index closes higher as Asian surrender gains late into the session

The Nikkei pares gains into the close and ends the day at its session low in fact. This comes as Chinese stocks continue to bleed further and the Hang Seng is almost flat on the day now trading just 0.1% higher after having been up by more than 0.7% earlier on.
This presents a bit of a tepid tone ahead of European trading later with investors having to weigh between the positive sentiment in Wall St overnight and the sluggish tone in Asian trading during the last hour.
