Tokyo's main index closes just shy of the year's high

The Nikkei climbed to its highest levels since 1991 in trading earlier but closed a little off the highs. The weaker performance in the Japanese yen since overnight trading was one of the main contributors for the improved sentiment today as Japanese stocks lead gains in Asian trading.
