Tokyo's main index closes basically flat on the day

That's a win for risk sentiment right there. The Nikkei closes near the highs and pares losses on the day. A similar mood is seen in the Hang Seng, but mainland Chinese stocks are still lower on the day. USD/JPY is still inching higher now up to 109.63 from near the lows around 109.40 levels about two hours ago.
