Nafta changes dying a post-election death

Obama has been backing away from what he himself called “heated campaign rhetoric” since the Democratic primaries this spring when he vowed to unilaterally renegotiate Nafta. Now, he will employ one of the great stalling tactic employed bu all presidents who want to postpone a decision: he will launch a study after the election. Should he wish to delay further, a “blue ribbon panel” can be ordered up. At this pace he can probably get through the 2010 mid-term elections without lifting a finger on Nafta. After that, it will be campaign time again, so nothing substantive will be done. Voila! Problem solved and Nafta vows flushed down the memory hole…
