The Greek government has brought criminal charges against the government statisticians who reported the huge deficits in 2009.
They blame them for having to take a bailout.
It’s bizarre on so many levels but for 10 years before the bailout, Greece systematically under-reported its deficit and debt and no one was ever charged. Even worse, the statisticians actually reported the higher deficit after Greece asked for a bailout.
Earlier this year, the government tried a man who published the Lagarde list of tax cheats after a prolonged attempt to bury the list.
