Baseball runs into problems
Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that eight additional players and two coaches on the Miami Marlins have tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total in recent days to at least 14. The league couldn't make it through the opening weekend of the season without running into problems. Tonight's game is now canceled.
The return of baseball and other professional sports isn't important in the big picture economically but it is psychologically.
Baseball has a poor plan with teams continuing to travel in a shortened season. The Miami team has been in Philadelphia for a few days playing and team members are now quarantined there. They had also recently traveled to Atlanta.
A series of players on the Cincinnati Reds have also been scratched without explanation.
I don't see how the team could be reconstituted quickly so they're likely to delay more games. If this king of situation happens a few more times, I don't see how they can continue the season. If they were to pull the plug I think it would hit the psychology of consumers and the market hard.
