Merkel says won't be able to reach a common asylum agreement at EU Summit

German chancellor Angela Merkel addresses parliament in Berlin

  • All in Europe agree that there is a need to reduce illegal immigration
  • But on migration policy, it is not yet where we want it to be

I think the pitchforks are starting to come out now, and by the end of tomorrow and over the weekend expect some heated stuff to come out from Germany.

The market is still weathering the challenge faced by Merkel rather well, but expect the euro to take a dip next week if there are strong voices calling for an election and a possible coalition government breakdown.
