May US Markit Manufacturing PMI 56.4 vs prior 56.2

Don’t get confused: this is a separate data point ahead of the ISM numbers in 15 minutes.

  • With a brief exception in early 2010 manufacturing is growing at its fastest since before the recession.
  • The survey suggests a substantial boost to second quarter GDP
  • The strength of the second quarter is not simply a bounce back from the weather – companies are reporting more confidence, stronger consumers, and increased investments.
  • Households in particular are strongest with demand for consumer goods gaining at the fastest rate in four years.
