Weber could soon lead the European Commission
Spiegel reports that Manfred Weber will announce his candidacy to lead the center-right in European elections.
Weber currently leads the European People's Party in EU parliament and if he can gain the backing of other parties, he would quickly become the front runner to get the job from Juncker. In Germany, Weber is a member of the CSU, which is the Bavarian sister party to Merkel's CDU.
Recent reports said Merkel is eager to get a German at the head of the European Commission, rather than at the top of the ECB.
