France's Macron speaking about EU/US trade deal
France's Pres. Macron is on the wires saying:
- France and EU never wanted trade war with the US
- Some points to Juncker-Trump deal need clarifying
- agricultural should be kept out of talks with US
- calls for clear signal from US on steel tariffs
- does not favor vast trade agreement with United States because context isn't right for it
- US must make clear gestures over the legal steel, aluminum taxes
So the nitty gritty details and the voice of 28 countries are starting to come to the surface. This is just one voice and there are some issues.
- Trump wants to do a big deal
- Macron says is not ready for a vast trade agreement
- Trump said EU would buy soybeans immediately
- Macron says to keep agriculture out of it
- Trump implied steel and aluminum tariffs would end. Commerce secretary Ross said they will still be in effect until a new deal is had.
- Macron says US must make clear intentions over "illegal" steel and aluminum tariffs.
I can feel some tweets coming.
