Long-bond auction is the top item on the agenda today

Light calendar greets US traders

The Fed has gone into its blackout period two weeks before the FOMC meeting starts so that will keep things a bit quieter.

The main economic data point coming up is Thursday when US retail sales are due. That's probably the only number left that could change the Fed debate ahead of Sept 21.

For today, the spot to watch is fixed income. The Treasury is selling 30-year bonds today at 1 pm ET. Yesterday's 10-year sale was weak but it came before Brainard's speech.

Still, if you look at 30s, the market is still wary of buying.

The only other events on the economic calendar are a speech from the ECB's Lautenschlager at 2 pm ET (1800 GMT) and the US government monthly budget statement at the same time.
