Life after Brexit - UK starts fresh trade talks with India

In the wake of the Brexit vote it's time to get the ball rolling on the UK's revised terms of trade 8 July 2016

Just in case the focus on NFPs has been denying our dear readers your Brexit headline fix here's one before I head off for the week-end.

UK Business Secretary Sajid Javid today arrived in India for the first trade talks since Brexit. Mr Javid will meet Indian government officials in Delhi to discuss how the trading relationship with India might work with the UK outside the EU.He will also visit the US, China, Japan and South Korea in the coming months.

While in India, the third biggest foreign investor in the UK, Javid will also discuss the future of Tata Steel UK, a hot topic in the wake of cheap and inferior steel dumping by China.

Commonwealth countries accounted for about 10%, or £47.8bn, of UK exports in 2014, whereas about 44%, or £228.9bn, were with the EU.

Lots of talk/scare-mongering in the build-up to Brexit so it will be extremely interesting to see the initial range of reaction from this series of discussions. Positive tones could equally prove positive for the pound ( try saying that after a few beers).

The BBC has more here, including a good "Reality Check" piece on whether the UK can actually sign any trade deals before actually leaving the EU anyhow.
