This is the vote to allow a vote later on
The Letwin/Cooper business motion vote on whether the Letwin/Cooper bill will be voted on later tonight is being voted on now (if you can follow that...UGH).
Such is the political process in the UK
The Letwin/Cooper bill is an initative aimed at stopping a no-deal Brexit. Specifically, it will bring forward a bill requiring the prime minister to put forward a proposal to extend article 50 past Aprl 12 to ensure the UK cannot leave the bloc with no-deal by default.
The bill is split in 3 secttions:
- require the PM to bring a motion to the House of Commons the day after the bill passes to seek an extension past April 12
- MPs would then be free to change the date, binding the government
- If the EU responds with a different delay date, the PM must propose a fresh motion the House of Commons
What I know for sure is there will be a result....It is supposed to be close.
