The opposition Japan Restoration Party has decided to dissolve

  • Due to their disagreement over a proposed merger with a smaller opposition party, prompted by divergent views on Japan’s pacifist Constitution
  • It will aim to dissolve by the end of July
  • It’ll split into two parties, a 21st and a house-warming

The Japan Restoration Party currently has 62 in the upper and lower houses

  • 37 are expected to join a group led by Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto
  • 23 plan to form a new party with Shintaro Ishihara
  • 2 intend to become independents
