There are no principles on politics
Boris Johnson doesn't care about Ireland. He doesn't care about the backstop. He was never thought leader on the EU or Brexit until it became politically convenient for him.
Now he says he will support the same deal he voted against and railed against for months. It's the same with 40 others members of the ERG, some with more intellectual consistency than others.
If it wasn't clear before, politics isn't about principle, it's about power. The vast majority of parliament doesn't care about Brexit, it's a means to an end. It's a fresh opportunity to play the Game of Thrones and that's all they want.
Now it's not a question of whether the deal is good or not: It's a question of whether more chaos is good for the politicians who want power, or if more chaos is a ladder to get to the top.
