There are two nightmare scenarios. The first is a tie between Romney and Obama in the electoral college. The other is a Florida 2000 “too close to call” scenario which produced the still-disputed first Bush term after the US Supreme Court ruled Florida’s recount violated the equal protection clause of the Constitution.
Both those scenarios would lead to a heavy risk-off scenario. Coming on the heels of a devastating storm, days upon days of people sitting around televisions waiting for the election to be sorted out would not be a good thing for the slow-growing US economy.
