Italy's Tria says economy and public finances are in good shape

Italy economy minister Giovanni Tria speaks to lawmakers

  • Government won't worsen structural budget situation
  • Italy 2018 GDP growth tilted to downside after Q2 data
  • Italy to operate in its own interest to counter trade war
  • Government not planning any budget adjustments for 2018

The comment on downside risks to GDP surely won't bode well for the Eurozone economy as a whole in Q2 and as we begin 2H 2018. Factory and industrial sectors are doing poorly, and if domestic demand slows down further then it's going to start posing real problems for the ECB moving forward.
