Italy to tack on €20bn in debt to cover banks

Italian government green lights additional debt

With the health of Italian banks still firmly in the spotlight, the Italian upper house has approved a request to add €20bn to Italian debt to help underwrite any further problems with them.

It's likely to also be a green light for Monti dei Paschi to put in for a bail out.

At least the money will be coming from in house rather than European coffers. Maybe the system does work ;-)
