Based on the number of mentions that Italy got throughout the day, it seems that Italian pension reform was high on the list of priorities for EZ leaders before any sign-off was made on the EFSF. Much is still dependent on Italy’s ability to pass these reforms, not just promise them as usual. There is some suggestion that in order to get the reforms through, Berlusconi has had to promise his coalition partners that he will resign in January. This is European politics we are dealing with and its never ever straightforward.
