Note - the post Italian politics - PM designate and President to meet has news that the Italian PM may ask a former IMF official to form a 'technocrat' government …. it also contains thinking out loud from me on how that would play out in parliament - 'cause 5 Star and League (together) have a majority so they'd likely reject this.
Latest now:
M5S & Fratelli d'Italia have called for impeachment of the President, saying he does not have the right to refuse appointment of a minister (they've couched this in terms of Mattarella being beholden to foreign powers - Mattarella wants to stay in the euro).
If there is not a constitutional crisis there may well be fresh elections.
Anyway, stay tuned. This ain't over!
