Ireland's Coveney says believes a Brexit deal will be done

Comments by Irish foreign minister Simon Coveney in Dublin

  • Brexit talks need to intensify
  • So far, talks that are required hasn't happened
  • Says that May is genuine on the Irish backstop commitment

Well, the general rhetoric in Brexit now is that everyone is talking up hopes of a deal still. But they're all adding the caveat that there's still "some issues" to be worked out. The key of course being the Irish backstop/border. And so far, there hasn't been any plausible solution to that and it's clear from comments by both the UK and the EU that it remains an impasse.
