Ireland's Coveney: Extension of Brexit transition period cannot be an alternative to Irish backstop

Comments by Irish foreign minister Simon Coveney

  • Says there will be no agreement without the backstop; 'end of story'

Yup, despite Theresa May insisting that 95% of the Brexit withdrawal agreement has been settled, the 5% that continues to stand out is very much a tough one to get around as it includes the Irish border/backstop issue. Until that is sorted out, there is just no way forward for Brexit negotiations at this point.
