Here is what’s on the economic calendar in Asia today (China's President Xi speaking)

Chinese President Xi Jinping will deliver a speech today at the Boao Forum for Asia (an annual summit). Markets are watching for comments on trade issues, and of course economic reforms.

2200 GMT - New Zealand Institute of Economic Research business survey for Q1 2018. This will be a focus for NZ markets on the session. The business confidence measure in the prior quarter fell sharply (change of government cited) but is expected to show improvement in today's Q1 result.

2301 - UK data - BRC Like-for-like sales for March (expectations are snow during this month will had a negative impact on retail sales)

  • expected -0.1% y/y, prior continued its run of growth at +0.6%

2330 GMT - Australia - weekly consumer confidence

ANZ Roy Morgan weekly survey

0130 GMT - Australia and the focus on the calendar during the session

National Australia Bank Business Survey for March

  • Business conditions, prior was 21 (a record high and notably, the retail sector was its best in 8 months)
  • Business confidence, prior was 9 (financial market volatility in February may well have impacted here)
