Last week we got the National CPI data for May, at 2330GMT we get Tokyo inflation data (for June - the Tokyo CPI data is available almost a month earlier than the National CPI)

  • Tokyo CPI y/y expected is 0.4%, prior was 0.4%
  • Tokyo CPI excluding Fresh Food y/y, expected 0.6%, prior was 0.5%
  • Tokyo CPI excluding Food, Energy y/y, expected 0.3%, prior was 0.2% (the one to watch, its closest to US core inflation)

Tokyo data is watched as a guide to the National data

Also at 2330GMT from Japan, May data for

  • Jobless Rate expected 2.5%, prior was 2.5%
  • Job-To-Applicant Ratio, expected is 1.59, prior was 1.59

At 2350GMT and still in Japan, Industrial Production for May m/m (preliminary):

  • expected -1.0% m/m, prior +0.5%
  • expected +3.4% y/y, prior +2.6%
