The Economy Watchers Survey from Japan was out late yesterday

The 'current' came in at 50
- expected 49.0, prior 48.6
The 'outlook' component came in at 50.5
- expected 50.3, prior 49.6
This is a positive result for the Japanese economy.
- The 'current conditions' hit its highest level for the year so far
- And up 9 points on the y/y
- Improvements were widespread
- The major components related to households, corporates and employment were all higher for the month (household indexes gained; current conditions & outlook to their highest since January and February respectively. This points to continued improvement in consumer spending.)
- The government maintained its basic assessment for the second straight month - says the economy "continues to pick up."

For this survey the Cabinet Office polled 2,050 workers across Japan from May 25 to May 31
