The dynamic duo will be in action later in the day
They will be speaking in the European afternoon just as US traders are beginning the new week. But before that, we'll be hearing from ECB governing council Ewald Nowotny. Here's the full agenda:
0845 GMT - ECB member Ewald Nowotny speaks in Vienna
Nowotny will be speaking at a conference hosted by the Austrian central bank on fintech. Not likely to touch much on monetary policy here.
1400 GMT - ECB president Mario Draghi speaks in Brussels
Draghi will be speaking in the European Parliament at the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) hearing. He will first deliver introductory remarks before delivering a second introductory statement in his capacity as ESRB chair. He should touch a little on the economy and monetary policy but isn't expected to deviate much from what we heard last week in the ECB press conference.
1430 GMT - BOE governor Mark Carney speaks at a BOE event
Carney will be joined by MPC members Ben Broadbent, Dave Ramsden and Joanna Place as they speak at the closing event of the central bank's Future Forum. The roundtable event here is expected to carry on until 1600 GMT. The theme of the forum is "Let's decide the future of money" so I wouldn't expect much comments related to monetary policy. Either way, with the Brexit fog still not lifted, the BOE pretty much has their hands tied so there shouldn't be any comments that really stands out here.
So, we may have two heavyweights of the central banking world speaking today but given the backdrop they should not offer much of anything new to the current market landscape. Nonetheless, it's always good to be wary in case of any surprises so just take note of the timing later today.
