Greek FinMin to resign from post after Pasok leadership elections

Expects national elections in 6-7 weeks.

  • Greece needs strong political direction
  • Time at finance ministry is finished
  • Replacement process at finance ministry complete
  • Cycle of recession, unemployment must be broken
  • No alternative to wage and pension cuts; failure to make cuts would have led to bankruptcy and an exit from the euro

The latest polls show Pasok with 10%, behind New Democracy with 17%.

The handsome Mr. Venizelos has long made clear that he would make a bid to run the Socialist party.
