Greece had asked for a larger rise in emergency lending program
Reuters sources report at Greece had asked for a larger borrowing cap but was given just 3.3B euros. Bank deposits have been drawn down at a pace of 1B euros every two days.
A senior banker cited by Reuters said the 3.3B increase is enough to meet banks' liquidity needs for another week if those deposit trends persist.
The ECB has put Greece on a very short leash but they could easily boost it if Greece comes to an agreement on a bailout extension. But by playing a game of brinksmanship, the EU and Greek politicians aren't doing the Greek banking system any favors.
