Germany's Gabriel is in a conciliatory mood today

The German economic minister has some advice for the EU

  • EU should work on a new growth and stability pact

  • Existing pact is too focused on stability and not enough on growth

  • EU should give countries time to carry out reforms in exchange for reducing deficits

  • EU should also reward reforms made by member countries

I think countries get far too much time to enact reforms. We're nearly 5 years from the height of the crisis and still waiting for a mountain of reforms to be completed.
