The case count continues to keep at lower levels in the past week or so
That sees active cases fall further to ~172,600 and that is the lowest level since 2 November as the virus situation continues to improve in Germany. The death count is still something to keep an eye out for as total deaths now climb to 62,156 persons.
German chancellor Merkel said yesterday that the situation needs to show improvement for another two more weeks before the government considers anything about easing restrictions, with ongoing fears surrounding the spread of virus variants.
Medical capacity remains somewhat stretched though for the time being, with 3,957 (+24) virus patients requiring intensive care as of yesterday and there being 4,899 (18%) intensive care beds still available across the country.
