The Monday count is always lower due to the weekend effect
This is largely due to lesser testing conducted over the weekend, as we can also observe a similar trend in the previous weeks (⬆).
The number of active cases across the country has now surpassed 300,000 with another 125 deaths reported bringing the total tally on that front to 16,248 persons.
In terms of healthcare capacity, there are 3,901 (+13) coronavirus patients requiring intensive care as of yesterday with 5,869 (21%) intensive care beds still available.
This continues to allude to the fact that the virus situation in Germany has sort of plateaued but the death count in the past week isn't really a positive signal. Adding to that is the slow descend from the plateauing over the last few weeks.
Over the weekend, North Rhine Westphalia state premier, Armin Laschet, said that they can only review again in early January the tighter restrictions - which are likely to be extended beyond 20 December and into the new year at this point in time.
