German government reported to lower economic growth forecasts

According to a report by Handelsblatt

  • 2018 GDP growth to be revised lower to 1.8% from 2.3% prior
  • 2019 GDP growth to be revised lower to 2.0% from 2.1% prior

This doesn't come as too much of a surprise as we have been seeing downward revisions to German economic growth forecasts in the latter half of the year so far. The latest of course being Ifo - Germany's statistics office - lowering the 2018 and 2019 growth forecasts to 1.8% for both years respectively.

For some context, the German economy has been struggling with factory activity lately and export orders have been the main drag to the economy which is only underpinned by robust domestic demand at the moment.
