German finance ministry rejects EU's plans for new Eurobonds

An overnight report from Handlesblatt said that the European Commission are planning to launch Eurobonds

  • German finance ministry says gov rejects the idea of Eurobonds

  • Is doubtful there would be sufficient demand for such financial instruments, particularly in crisis situations

The Handelsblatt story reports that the EC and ECB are putting together a proposal for a new financing instrument. Apparently they want to bundle some Eurozone state debt into "European Safe Bonds" (Someone has an ironic sense of humour).

You can read the full story here. It's partially gated but what's available is enough to get a idea of what they're planning, and it's something that's been touted before.
