German minister says ready to take countermeasures if US imposes steel tariffs

The White House appears to be having second thoughts on tariffs

Months ago, the White House promised to impose steel tariffs imminently but they haven't materialized.

There is a G20 steel summit in Berlin this week so it will be an issue that's back in the headlines. German economy minister Zypries said they want a multilateral deal to curb overcapacity.

Ominously, he said it's unclear if a trade war over steel can be averted. The US might not even participate in the summit.
